Before you order

Human supervision is required at all times, in and around water. The PetVest® is not professional rescue equipment, and it is not a reason to attempt rough water, deep-ocean, or unsupervised activity. Suitability depends on your dog's size, weight, health, behaviour, and fit.

What's on the vest

Every part named below is visible on the product itself.

Padded front flap

Sits flat against the front of the neck and gives your dog a surface to rest their head on in the water.

Adjustable straps

Chest and belly straps adjust to your dog's measurements. Two flat fingers should fit under each one.

Top grab handle

For lifting and guiding while you are right beside your dog — never for holding a dog suspended.

Shark fin

Runs along the top of the vest. Decorative: nothing to adjust, nothing to hold on to.

Two colorways

Blue / Green or Orange / Mango — high-visibility panels either way, so you can pick your dog out against the water.

Measure, then match the size chart

Breed alone won't tell you the answer — two dogs of the same breed often need different sizes. Take these numbers with your dog standing, then match them to the chart below.

1

Back length

From the base of the neck to the base of the tail, with your dog standing.

2

Bust (chest girth)

The widest point behind the front legs — tape snug but not tight. This is the bust column in the chart.

3

Neck girth

Around the base of the neck, where a collar sits.

4

Current weight

A recent weight, not an estimate from last season.

Between two sizes? Size up. A vest with adjustment range left is easier to fit than one already at its limit. Still unsure? We're glad to help — lumapawshop@gmail.com

How to wear it

If the printed instructions supplied with your vest differ from anything here, follow the printed instructions.

01

Open the fasteners

Undo every strap fully before the vest goes near your dog, on dry ground away from the water.

02

Orient the vest

Flap at the front of the neck, fin running along the back, straps hanging free underneath.

03

Place it on

Lower it onto your dog's back rather than pulling it over the head, and let them settle.

04

Fasten and adjust

Close the chest and belly straps, then tighten evenly until the vest sits level.

05

Comfort check

Two flat fingers under each strap. Walk a few steps together and watch for rubbing or hesitation.

06

Re-check at the water

Dogs shake and move — confirm every fastener and the neck opening again before entering.

In the water, on the dock, on the boat — always with a person within immediate reach.

Product questions

More background on fit, supervision, and water introduction lives on the LumaPaw homepage.

Which size should I order?
Match your dog's bust, neck, and current weight to the size chart on this page. When the three numbers point to different sizes, size up.
How should the vest fit?
Level on the back, snug without pressure: roughly two flat fingers under each strap and two fingers at the neck opening. It shouldn't rotate, ride up, or restrict walking, breathing, or head movement.
Is supervision really required?
Always. The vest is only for use while you are supervising and can reach your dog immediately. It is not professional rescue equipment.
Which water is it made for?
Calm, shallow, supervised water — a home pool, a quiet shore, a still lake edge. Not surf, currents, or deep open water.
How do I clean and store it?
Rinse after use and let it dry fully in a shaded, airy spot before storing. The care instructions supplied with your vest take priority over anything here.
When should I stop using it?
If it shifts out of place, restricts breathing or movement, rubs, or your dog shows visible distress. Take it off, re-measure, and reassess the size before trying again.
